THINK BEFORE DECIDING TO GLITTER YOUR BEARD THIS CHRISTMAS
Happy Friday my fellow beardsmen and cheerful blog readers. Here's hoping your week has been good to you so far as we welcome on the weekend to begin.
Today a rather interesting, yet shocking story was brought to my attention from a fellow reader of our blog that I feel should be discussed as today's chosen topic. So, without any delay let us begin with todays blog, which is titled - Think Before Deciding To Glitter Your Beard This Christmas...
It's true, many men around the globe have taken to decorating their face fur with colourful glitter, all in aid of feeling a tad festive this Christmas time, which might look rather eye catching, but is causing a whole lot more harm than good.
Scientists are suggesting that glitter should be banned, as it could lead to 'ecological chaos' after it enters our water systems, eventually leading onto our oceans. Let me explain in a little better detail...
If you've ever messed around with glitter yourself as a kid, or with your own kids you'll know just how tricky it can be to clear up afterwards. It gets just about everywhere and you'll still be finding little bits of glitter weeks afterwards about your house.
When you take a shower and wash out that glitter from your beard, or from your makeup for those women who also enjoy a little glitter glam, we wash it away down the bathtub plughole not giving it a second thought as to where it might end up. Afterall, out of sight, out of mind.
Once the glitter particles reach our water system they add to the ever growing problem of plastic pollution, which is why researchers are demanding glitter to become a banned substance from our shop shelves.
Microplastics quickly pollute our water systems, with glitter being a recently high culprit due to the fact it is extremely difficult to filter out of water once it is inside. Glitter particles have been found to contaminate the water that we drink to the food that we eat, scientifically proving that glitter is terribly polluting to the very environment in which we source our food and drink.
Following such findings is is believed that there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish by 2050 if things don't drastically change, and fast. Researchers warned that a staggering 8 million tonnes of plastics already find their way into our seas each year, with stats expected to rise in the coming years.
If current rates do not considerably improve we can expect there to be more plastic pollutants in our oceans than fish by the year of 2050, as it is already believed that a whopping 150 MILLION tonnes of plastics are in our oceans today.
Of course, our 'glitter beards' are not the only ones to point the finger of blame towards, as glitter has been used for many years in the cosmetic industry. Glitter tattoos are already in testing to, which could soon become the new latest fad in the not so distant future.
I think we, as a human race need to 'wake up and smell the coffee' for blunt term of words, and wise up on the harm we seem only willing to do that harm our planet. Yes, glitter beards might seem like a lot of fun, but for those who have suggested I give this a try this year, I think It is probably for the best that I'll have to opt out.
What do you think of these recent research findings? Is it enough to make you stop and think? As always let us know your thoughts in the comments section provided below.
And until next time, Beard on Brothers, Beard on...
