4 SIMPLE TO FOLLOW POINTERS TO HELP KEEP THOSE BEARD KNOTS AT BAY
Firstly, welcome to the year of 2017! I hope you all waved goodbye to the old and welcomed in the new year surrounded by those dearest with a glass or two (or maybe twelve!) of your favourite bubble fizz. I wanted to take a little look at an ongoing problem many of us with beards will have, and hopefully help eliminate the issue in the process. Beard knots are a real pain in the ass, but sadly they are rather common, so here's 4 Simple To Follow Pointers To Help Keep Those Beard Knots At Bay...
USING THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB AT HAD WILL HELP!
When brushing/combing your beard it's real important to make sure you're using the right kind of comb or/and brush that's better suited to your beards style. Some prefer a natural bristle type brush, whereas others find a wide toothed comb works much better at detangling any troublesome areas within their beard. Finding what works for you best is the ideal solution, but it's equally as important not to use a fine toothed comb or a tough bristled brush, as these can actually have the reverse effect and instead of help work with your face fuzz, it can pull apart and cause you more damage long term, such as split ends and bald spots. Try our limited edition range of beard combs and soon to launch brushes that you'll find on our 'The Beard Struggle' online store.
APPLY YOUR BEARD OIL/BALM BEFORE YOU COMB!
We all follow our own routines when it comes grooming our marvelous beard-manes. Again, what works great for one, might not work for another. That doesn't make either party wrong, only that we are different as are our beards. I used to apply my 'TBS' morning balm right after combing through any knots and tangles, then again after applying my 'TBS' product. Whereas if you choose to apply your oils or balms beforehand they can actually help work out any testing knots and bad spots in the process. I've been doing this now for several weeks and found it works really well for me and my rather wild looking wild ginger face forest. Then once you've done that, you can always apply more product as and when needed. Give it a try for yourself if you don't already do this, as I strongly feel this'll help keep those knots and tangles to an absolute minimum.
TRY TO CHANGE HOW YOU SLEEP TO HELP STOP THE TANGLES FROM HAPPENING!
This next technique is easier said than done. But if you can try and sleep mostly on your back when snoozing, you're likely to lessen the amount of beard tangles you create when catching yourself some much needed Z's. Knots are exactly that, a knot within a single or several beard hairs. They form when your hair becomes tangled within itself, then grows to form a rather tight knot. Now, unless you'r a gymnast who spends most of your days jumping about the place whilst participating in several hundred roly polies and backflips each and everyday, your main form of contact to cause knotting happens when you move around in your sleep. If you are a heavy sleeper then trying to find a new sleeping position might just work for you. And although I initially fall fast asleep on my back to begin with, I wake up in the morning in some rather questionable poses. So I hear you when you state that this trick is much easier spoken than followed.
A LITTLE TRIM EVERY NOW AND AGAIN WILL ALSO HELP AGAINST THOSE KNOTS!
If you are anything like me, the thought alone of having to visit the beard barber for a light trim every once in a while will send shivers down your spine and right to the bone. But opting in for a light trim does in fact help keep any split ends and broken hairs at an all time low. If you leave your beard to it's own devices it's highly likely you'll have numerous split beard hairs that you are probably blissfully unaware of. Split ends are rather ugly up close, and also stump your beard from growing in the way that it should. So pencil in on your schedule a light trim every once in a while with either a trusted barber that knows exactly what they are doing, or if you're feeling a tad braver, you can always follow a guide to help trim your beard safely in the comfort of your own home.
So, there you have it. A few simple pointers to hopefully keep your beard working equally as hard as you are. I'm currently following a few other grooming guides that I will report back on my findings in a 'part 2' style blog in the coming weeks. But until then, if you have any beard related questions or have any pointers you'd like to add then please do not hesitate to leave us a comment in the box you'll find provided below.
