BEARDS AND TATTOOS GO HAND IN HAND, BUT WHY SO?
Today I done something I hadn't done in over five years, and sat upon a tattoo parlours chair and went under the needle all in the name of tattooing. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting old (being at a whopping 32!) or I had just genuinely forgotten just how painful in certain areas a jolly good inking can be, but my lord am I feeling the five hour session right now! They say there's something rather fetching about a guy with tattoos and beards. But have you ever wondered what that could be? Today I'm going to try and discover what the attraction could be as I ask, Beard Are Tattoos Go Hand In Hand, But Why So?...
After a short Google search it appears the reason women dig big beards and tattooed sleeves boils down to science (doesn't everything these days?) and here's what I discovered. According to a study published in the Evolution of human behaviour a handful of researchers analyzed over 150 species of primates to see how they use physical ''badges'' to stand out from their peers. They discovered that male primates who live in larger groups and societies use more flamboyant signs to get noticed by their lovely female friends. The bigger and louder the ''badge'' the more success they found when it comes to mating in comparison to those who do not. By ''badges'' I'm not suggesting they walk around with a huge pin badge strapped to their chest screaming for attention, but usually they have more noticeable features, from eye catching battle marks to puffing out their chests and body hair.
The same researchers suggest this holds the same value for us humans too. Only we've jumped ahead on the evolution chain a little and shown our manliness with huge eye catching tattoos, smart piercings and large marvelous bushy beards. As the study suggests the more we make ourselves stand out from the crowd the higher our chances are of catching ourselves a lady friends attention.
So, if you are one of the lovely kind of folks who feels magnetized to men with beards and fresh ink don't be alarmed as to why, It's simply a natural human instinct that you should be proud of.
