Guide to How to Grow a Viking Beard
Currently, the beard has become a symbol of dashing masculinity. From among the various types of beard styles, one can choose a style a Ruthless Pagan warrior known as a Viking. Popular perception of this style of beard is a blend of rustic and charismatic. Though it is not well suited for everyone. Those who consider themselves as stylish, brave, and as merciless as a Viking can give a try to this style. The Vikings were not so much a Nationality or a race as much as they were a culture. Think about all those lands they conquered. Do you think they killed them off? Or do you think they absorbed them into their culture and society. They were an Embodiment of a warrior culture feared much like the Spartans of Ancient Greece.
Who were the Vikings?
First and foremost, who were the Vikings? The Vikings (Old English: wicing—"pirate", Danish and Bokmål: vikinger; Swedish and Nynorsk: vikingar; Icelandic: víkingar, from Old Norse) were Norse (Pagan) seafarers, mainly speaking the Old Norse language, who during the late 8th to late 11th centuries, raided and traded from their Northern European homelands across wide areas of Europe, and explored westwards to Iceland, Greenland, and Vinland. The term is also commonly extended in modern English and other vernaculars to the inhabitants of Norse home communities during what has become known as the Viking Age.
Viking Perceptions
Vikings were not just viewed by the early-medieval British as enemies but as enemies of an especially dreadful kind: the epitome of barbarism and heathendom. Which is where we get our widely held perceptions of them
Viking embodied Courage, Enterprise, and most prized of all virtues: Manliness. They are described as ruthless pagan savages that conquered four continents. An achievement all in itself. They were the first Europeans to cross the Atlantic and reach North America (which they called “Vinland”); they settled in Iceland (permanently), Greenland (for centuries) and Newfoundland (briefly). Additionally, they founded the first Russian state, based in Kiev and they gave Ireland its first towns, including Dublin, while their fleets penetrated as far south as the Mediterranean and the coasts of North Africa. They were overall, considered explorers. You must also consider how hard it would be to hold such a vast control without the common advancements we have today.
How to Grow a Viking Beard
It isn’t enough to grow “Just” a beard. The Beard must be as epic and as intimidating as the Vikings themselves. Patience is important because you have to follow a process which can seem hectic for many.
Step 1: Let the Beard Grow
This is going to be the most epic and possibly frustrating of all feats you might ever attempt. After all, Vikings were not known to be meek. You must grow your beard long, I am not saying four or five inches long, I mean one to two feet long. There are ways in which to achieve this, however, help will be required, as terminal beard length can and will likely set in.
Terminal Beard
Terminal beard length is the point at which your beard stops growing. Every hair on your body has one. It is not necessarily a length as much as it is a timeframe. One to two years is all you have to grow out your beard. You can improve this by buying products to keep it healthy. This will keep your beard looking and feeling great.
Proper Nutritious Healthy Foods
Eating right will help you get the right nutrients in your body to be the best Viking you can be. You have all heard the saying, “You put Good in, you get Good Out”. This was not something that your mother told you as a child to get you to eat your vegetables. Or was it? No, this is a scientific fact that good nutrition can assist in living a longer healthier life. Focus on eating things high in Omega-6 and Omega-3. Best ratio is 2:1 or 4:1. Balance is important. The Vikings ate a diet loaded with oily fish and meat, which contain the very important Sulphur-rich amino acids that our modern diets are often lacking.
Step 2: Keep it Clean
I cannot stress this enough; a Dirty Beard is a Bad Beard. I mean, keeping it clean will give it a good foundation to grow upon. Whereas, a dirty beard will damage the hairs and impede growth. If the Vikings can clean their beards every day, so can you. Use Shampoos and conditioners specially designed for your beard. DO NOT USE SHAMPOOS FOR YOUR HEAD. That is VERY BAD. They have sulfates and parabens that strip the natural oils out of your hair and WILL DAMAGE YOUR BEARD.
Keep it Trimmed
Keep your beard trimmed. The longer it gets the more it can and will likely get split ends. Trimming these ends will keep it from slowing down or stopping from growing altogether. It would be easier to trim an inch off then to lose four inches of potential growth do to not keeping it maintained.
Exercise Regularly
Exercise regularly to help produce testosterone. Indirectly, Testosterone along with an enzyme create this androgen hormone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT. This is the literally the stuff that takes you from a boy to a man. Exercise helps create Testosterone. No Testosterone, no DHT.
Step 3: Style to completion
Nothing will complete the overall look like the style. However, everyone is different. I have put together some styles I hope will help you be the best Viking you can be. Take a look
