4 OF THE MOST HISTORICAL BEARDS THAT EVER LIVED

Throughout history we have been blessed by some truly awesome facial forests ever known to man, and to help celebrate the evolution of our glorious beards and all that they stand for we've compiled a short list of the four most influential beards that have helped shape history as we know it. From a certain fried chicken enthusiasts to thinking outside of the box evolutionist, our short list may just contain a familiar face or two...

CHE GUEVARA.

Che Guevara was an Argentinean born, cuban revolutionary leader who became possibly one of the most iconic left wing hero throughout history. In 1954 he visited Mexico and the following year met Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro. He joined the Castro movement and played a huge role in the eventual success of the guerrilla war against the then dictator, Fulgencio Batista.

Today, his face can be found printed on numerous posters, t shirts and flags usually sported with the words 'Viva La Revolution' as sign of support for what he represented during his documented lifestyle. Although his facial hair was at a minimum, his face wouldn't look quite the same without his facial gruff on such images.

CHARLES DARWIN.

Charles Robert Darwin was born during the early 1800's and became an English naturalist and Geologist who is best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. He first established that all living species descended over time from common ancestors.

Darwin published his theories on evolution as we know it supported by highly compelling evidence in his book - 'On The Origin Of Species' in 1859. His glorious beard remains printed on the British £10 bank note. Everytime I spy him on my notes I have to pay much respect to the man behind a truly respectable beard-mane.

COLONEL SANDERS.

Possibly one of the most recognisable faces in today's short list would be Mr Colonel Sanders. Born Colonel Harland David Sanders (Try saying that with a face full of fried chicken!) remains one of biggest faces to ever grace a fast food restaurant globally. He was the original founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, today better known as KFC. Many might believe that the good old Colonel is a fictional face thought up to simply represent and promote tasty chicken to the hungry folks of the world, which isn't the case.

Mr Sanders went onto become the face ambassador of the KFC brand as we know it and still to this day has his face printed across the side of our beloved chicken buckets. Maintaining a tidy two piece almost goatee like beard, it is believed the Colonel lived a colourful life in his younger years as he jumped from one career path to another. From an insurance salesman to a gas filling station operative, It appears 'finger lickin' chicken' wasn't the only idea on this gentlemans mind.

SALVADOR DALI.

Salvador Dali was multi-skilled creative individual best known for his striking yet outright bizarre images throughout his workmanship. One of his most memorable pieces being 'The Persistence Of Memory' which will be forever remembered for it's bizarre clock melting (I said clock! not...oh, nevermind!) creativity. The man behind the strange artwork, Dali sported a just as strange in appearance twisty, pointed mustache. Which for the 1930's was truly a surreal yet unforgettable image to portray. Me? I totally dig the strange and can only applaud such craftsmanship in both his art and his grooming skills.
